(More customer reviews)This has nothing to do with the SPN5564 charger, but the "OEM house" that shipped my order had ZERO protection around the plastic device and sent it via US mail (naturally charging vastly overrated shipping AND handling charges - it didn't get much handling becuase it was in a baggie in a white bag with my name and being under 1/4" thick did not need more than a first class stamp.)
I'm sorry - I just don't like to see amazon go the way of ebay where profits are in the shipping/handling/making up for ebay's outrageous charges/trying to make a profit field. Yes, I know that ebay/epay fees kill sellers bigtime and I know amazon is even worse to their 3rd party sellers, so they are doing the same thing here. It's happening with these 3rd party suppliers, but hey - without them we would not have access to MOT's high quality gear because amazon refuses to stock cellphone accessories. If Amazon continues this, they need to sit down with the 3rd party shippers and ask these 3rd parties "so to ship a 1/2 oz package that is less than 1/4" thick via US mail for 42 cents, you charged 7.99? Would you mind providing an accounting of the remaining $6.57?" (all numbers fictional and all parties innocent until proven guilty)
Now A pet peeve about the product itself - although this will charge your Droid's extra battery, or your original after you upgrade for the 72 hour Seidio Innocell 2600 mAh Extended Battery for Motorola Droid which is really nice to have, it doesn't use droid's superslim usb cord but rather the old fashioned big usb to mini usb cord. Why don't I like this feature? Becaue Droid's charger runs hot at 5.1V and .8A (USB spec is 4.5 - 5.5V and minimum 500 mA, which is usually found to be 4.9V and 500 mA on most pcs, so mot cranked the numbers up to have enough power to run the phone and charge it at the same time on their ac adapters which would be nice to use for the aftermarket as well. I guess you could use a normal big usb to little usb cord and plug it into mot's hot little ac wall wart to make your own hyper charger.
Note: this charger WILL NOT charge the 2600 mAh Seidio Innocell 2600 mAh Extended Battery for Motorola Droid. It won't even turn on the red light.A word of caution - watch out on the 3 day Droid battery discussion/review/knock out finish -- people haven't yet figured out how Droid Does battery measurements and are knocking that battery like it's a half dead china import alkaline cell when in fact I just finished 3 days on mine before recharging. I think it's actually MORE than 2600 mAh but will need to use a fixture like this product to test it on my battery analyzer. You'll see in the reviews alot of negativity both from the un-enlightened reviewiers (e.g. "this thing suks") and those who figured out how you must drain the 2600 mAh from the battery using knowledge gained from the tree of wisdom. It's not the battery's fault, it's Mot's firmware. All the ratings are either 1 or 5 stars. It's fun to watch.
So now having 2 spare batteries, I have a place to keep a hot one in the car ready to go with a 12VDC -> submini usb power cord (no cord came with this item) and that is why I bought it. Just in case I loose track of how many times I have drained the Seidio 3 day job I will always have the 12 hour factory battery to fall back on until I get home.
The charger, btw, does both the Droid's BP series battery as well as the BN/BT/and BQ series cells for whatever phones those are used in (they are much smaller so probably a small phone). There is a red transfer bar you use to setup the charger for an empty cavity where your bat will charge. To get your bat out, you flip the charger over and press on the opposite side's red block and push your battery out of the charger. Yes, it's simple, but there are people hashing it out over the 2600 mAh battery review comedy who would complain "there's no way to get your battery out once you put it in" if they weren't told about that mechanical feature. Also there is a slider that tells the charger what model battery you are charging - set it for BP for Droid cells.
This is a great way to keep your spare li-ion cells ready to run when not in Droid. I like it
