(More customer reviews)This charger needs TWO power sources to charge both the phone and the extra battery at the same time:
- Connected to the dock on the back is a USB cable (can't disconnect from charger), this powers the short micro USB cable on the side that you use to charge the actual phone. This USB cable needs to be connected to a powered USB source like your computer in order for it to charge. LED light indicator is on the right of the dock and is blue when powered (don't recall if it changes color when phone is fully charged)
- A second cable is included, this one a mini USB to AC wall adapter that charges the battery. So you plug the AC adapter to the wall outlet and the mini USB to the back of the dock. This cable can be disconnected from the dock. LED light indicator is on the left of the dock and is green when powered, red when charging (and I think back to green when fully charged)
Essentially, you need one wall outlet and one powered USB source. This would work well if I meant to keep it near my computer, but I want it by my nightstand. Might be able to figure it out using a powered USB hub and one wall outlet, if I do, I'll update review w/ my rig.
The cables are about 2-3 feet, except for the micro USB cable that charges the phone. That one is just long enough to reach the phone with a little coil/slack. I haven't had a chance to really test out the battery charger since my extra battery hasn't come in yet, but the phone charger works like it should.
One thing to note is that the phone dock is just wide enough for the bare phone, so if you have a case, it's not going to fit. I am able to have 2 cell phone charms dangling and still fit it in the dock. It also does have a shorter front panel so that you can still access your buttons.
Quality wise, it's made of black plastic casing so it's light, but it seems to be sturdy enough.
All in all, it's okay. Not the best design, but it works.
