(More customer reviews)The Body Glove is a textured two-part case. One piece surrounds but does not cover the screen, and does not provide screen protection. The second piece clips onto the keyboard and covers the back of the keyboard. This back case provides precisely fit openings for the speaker, camera lens, camera switch, USB charger, headset, and on/off button. At this time (November 2009), the Body Glove is available only in black.
Aware of my alarming tendency to drop small electronic products, I decided not to leave the Verizon store without a protective case. Case choices without belt clips were limited at the Verizon store: the Body Glove and a few snap-on silicone protectors. I prefer brightly colored cases so that my devices are easy to find. However, the colorful silicone cases seemed expensive, slippery, and flimsy. In contrast, the Body Glove felt substantial and well-made. For my needs, color took second place to texture and apparent quality.
It is clear that the case is not going to slide or slip once it is fit onto the Droid, but the tight fit makes the first installation a bit of a challenge. The Body Glove can be installed with or without a belt clip. I elected not to use the clip, and Body Glove provides a clever "plug" that fits nicely into the hole that the clip requires at the back of the case.
People are very interested in the Droid, and it gets handed around on a regular basis. The Body Glove provides an excellent gripping texture, and no one has dropped it (including me). While the Body Glove won't keep the Droid from sliding off of a leather car seat, it helps it stay put when placed on a fabric surface. At the same time, The Glove doesn't keep the Droid from slipping easily in or out of a backpack or laptop bag.
There are some drawbacks:
* It's a little expensive at $30.00, but there is a dearth of competitors. It also appears to be of good quality.
* The keyboard cover must be removed in order to reach the battery compartment. This is a bit incovenient as the relatively new Droid sometimes requires a reboot via the battery.
* The case is substantial, and adds to the Droid's already considerable bulk.
* As previously stated - it can only be purchased in black.
Overall, I'm very satisfied with the Body Glove's look, feel, and performance. Would I buy it again? Yes, in fact I've already bought another for the second Droid we added to our contract.
