I bought this directly through Verizon as that was the only place I could get one at the time, although I would have rather given my money to Amazon. Ok, now that all said, the battery has been great. I didn't do any formal comparative testing, but now I get a full day out of the battery-and in theory if I shut down the wireless connectivity in settings I could probably get a little longer than that. In comparison, and you probably already know this if you own a Thunderbolt, the regular battery is not enough to get you through one full day. Now that I have the new battery I feel comfortable going out without taking my charger-although I still recommend bringing that or the original (fully charged) battery as a backup.
As for the shape/size of your phone with the battery and cover-well it's definitely significantly larger. The battery feels/looks about 3 times as large as the original, and with this new shape-it's definitely not streamlined-but it doesn't seem very awkward, but most people who like the narrowness of say the iPhone, probably won't be in love with the shape of their Thunderbolt with the new battery. That said, the phone is useless, in my opinion, without the extra battery life. Bottom line, if you have a Thunderbolt already, you are most likely going to need this.
One final point-at the time of writing this there are no protective cases for the Thunderbolt with extended batteries. Some existing cases that happen to fit it may be available, however these as best as I can surmise, are not built for the Thunderbolt, so you will have to make do for a little while longer.
